Music Participation Healing
Respect and Understanding, located in Los Angeles and Pasadena, California, is a nonprofit organization that brings specialized Music Participation Healing programs to seniors in community care homes.
Resident participation is the major focus of our efforts.
We continue to witness the miraculous power of how singing familiar songs can bring short term improved behavior in dementia patients.
We actually make breakthroughs and stir "awakenings!"
Because of drastically reduced governmental funding given to health care and education services, we rely on "angels" in the private sector to help subsidize our music participation healing programs provided daily. Below is a video we created before Covid, and we hope to return to as many Carehomes that we served before the pandemic. We are letting the video stay on the website as a reminder of what kind of interaction with Residents we hope to return to.
Thank you for your support.

"R & U" enters a community care home with their core message of hope, and conscientiously strives to convey good cheer to residents and staff.
Weekly, seniors experience our genuine need to reach them with our special selection of familiar tunes, and are encouraged to play and sing along with us.
Our ongoing performance events, (Karaoke/Synchronized Drumming) has helped to facilitate real change; sometimes instantly, others gently over time.
We know that our local community work will create ripple effects for the future. Music Participation Healing intervention has been validated through studies as a powerful approach for mental health.
We believe that Music Participation facilitation, will become a globally recognized health care supplement to improve the lives of Seniors.
If you have a loved one in a senior care home, and feel they would benefit from our program, or if you're an administrator, or activities director and have been seeking Music Participation Healing for your residents, please write to Brian Duncan at: Contact
